Environment Minister Leona Aglukkaq announced on May 15, 2015 that Canada has set a target to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 30% below 2005 levels by 2030, which was formally submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.  The target is similar to those that were set by other major industrialised countries, and will focus on reducing emissions in the oil-and-gas, natural gas-fired electricity, chemicals, and nitrogen-fertilizer sectors.  The Federal Government will work with provinces and territories, who have the authority to set their own targets and take action within their jurisdictions.
